The Challenge
The time needed for billing was scattered across the tools the team already used. Getting it into one place at the end of the week had become its own job.
Microsoft 365 activity becomes a draft of the working day. Staff review their entries before choosing to sync them into Microsoft Access.
The time needed for billing was scattered across the tools the team already used. Getting it into one place at the end of the week had become its own job.
The activity history is a starting point for the timesheet, not the final billing record. Calendar events, email, and file activity help reconstruct what happened during the day. Staff then review that draft and decide what belongs in their time entries. Keeping those steps separate makes the person reviewing the work responsible for the record that is saved.
The Microsoft Access connection preserves the firm’s existing destination for approved time. The user chooses when to sync the reviewed entries, so gathering activity and recording time remain separate actions. This project illustrates how a custom application can sit between familiar tools and an established database without replacing the whole process.
The team has one place to reconstruct and review the day. Calendar, email, and file activity inform the draft; people decide what to record. Approved entries can then move into the existing Microsoft Access system without replacing that workflow.
“The experience of working with Sam and fpfuel was the best customer/consultant experience I could have hoped for. Sam was capable beyond expectations and responsive to our needs. The results were quick and dramatic. My entire organization has had a weight lifted off of their shoulders because we solved a gnarly and persistent problem together.”
